The Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will have expertise in the area of anthropological and community-based archaeology with a North American or Siberian focus that is relevant to the northern Plains or western Canada. Preference will be given to a collaborative-minded scholar who will strengthen our research and instructional capacities in contemporary and precontact human ecology and social archaeology, benefitting both our Archaeology and Anthropology programs.

Candidates must hold a PhD at the time of appointment and have established excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to have or demonstrate an ability to develop and maintain an active, externally-funded research program, as well as to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate student supervision, and program development. The ability to teach archaeological theory would be an asset.

The Department of Archaeology and Anthropology currently has 10 full-time faculty appointments with 18 associate and adjunct members from other departments and other institutions. The research and teaching expertise of our faculty is far-reaching, including: historical and precontact archaeology, forensic and biological anthropology, bioarchaeology, zooarchaeology, environmental archaeology, environmental anthropology, and medical and psychological anthropology. The Department offers academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and is exemplary in its outreach and engagement activities with government and non-governmental organizations throughout the province, including the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society, the Royal Museum of Saskatchewan, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. Typical faculty teaching loads are equivalent to four one-term courses per year, with reduced teaching appointments for new faculty members in their first two years. Salary Bands (July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020):

Assistant Professor: $93,293 to $112,109; Associate Professor: $112,109 to $130,925; and Professor $130,925 to $152,877. We expect to appoint at rank of Assistant Professor.
