53rd Annual Meeting of the Canadian Archaeological Association: 2021 Virtual Conference

CAA Virtual Conference 2021

Join us for the CAA’s first ever virtual conference May 5–9, 2021. We are excited bring our community together to explore our conference theme: Many Voices, Multiple Pasts: Identity and Diversity in Canadian Archaeology.

You could be the one to design our conference logo! Submit your entry to conference@canadianarchaeology.com. Competition closes February 26. The winner will receive a CAA baseball cap.

The conference will be hosted on the CAA website. It will feature several live Zoom roundtables, including one on Diversity in Canadian Archaeology and another on Indigenous Participation in CRM in Canada. We invite additional roundtable proposals that explore the conference theme. We are also planning an informal Women in Archaeology Zoom Meetup, with breakout groups where women can share their experiences in the discipline. The CAA Student Committee is organizing a publishing workshop, a career panel and a trivia night. Start putting your trivia teams together! Please get in touch if you have other event ideas that lend themselves to the virtual format: conference@canadianarchaeology.com.

We invite all CAA members to submit sessions, papers and/or posters, whether or not they align with the conference theme. Individual papers will be pre-recorded and posted several days before the conference begins, so attendees can view the presentations. During the conference itself, we will hold a live Zoom discussion for each session, where presenters can briefly recap their presentations and take questions from the audience. Poster sessions will work much the same way, with posters available several days before the conference, and live poster sessions where attendees can ask questions of individual poster presenters.

Conference registration will be by donation. All registrants must agree to comply with the draft CAA Anti-Harassment policy, available on the CAA website, and must agree to the following self-disclosure at registration: I am not and have never been the subject of adverse findings from a discrimination or harassment lawsuit or administrative complaint; and I have not been found at fault in a disciplinary action, such as suspension or termination resulting from a harassment investigation.
