The organizing committee for the 2025 Canadian Archaeological Association conference is pleased to be hosting the archaeological community this year in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The CAA held in St. John’s in 2007 and 2015 were memorable for interesting tours, engaging sessions, and connecting with friends and colleagues from across the country and we hope to continue that tradition.

This year’s theme of “Who Knit Ya” is particularly relevant as we are closing out the first quarter of the 21st century. This is a milestone year to take stock of where we are, the paths we’ve taken to get here, and the vital connections we’ve made along the way that have guided each of us on our journeys as individuals, organizations, and as a profession. Without these moments of reflection and connection, it is easy to lose sight of the warp and the weave that makes up the rich tapestry of archaeology across Canada and risk forgetting the successes (and challenges) of those that came before us.

The Memorial University and St. John’s archaeology community have always been strong supporters of the CAA and the annual conference. When we heard that there would not be a 2025 conference, we quickly mobilized to ensure that this annual event would continue. While we are happy to step up to support the CAA again, the short timeline we have to organize the conference unfortunately means that many of the traditional sources of support and funding, such as grants, university, and government supports are not available to us. At the moment we are relying solely on registrations fees to host the event. Given our limited resources, it is more vital than ever that individual and corporate sponsors contribute to this event so we have the resources to make this another memorable conference.
