Morphology and Dating of Projectile Points from Northern Vancouver Island

Conference Paper

Abstract

The coastal archaeology of the northern portion of Vancouver Island, including sites in Queen Charlotte Strait, Hardy Bay, and Quatsino Sound, has revealed a very small sample of projectile points, but with a considerable time span. Most are of the leaf-shaped spear point form. This paper will describe metric, stylistic, and raw material traits for this small sample in their dateable contexts. Comparison with points from other coastal areas suggest closest relationships are with central coast assemblages.
