Conference Paper
Abstract
Ongoing paleoethnobotanical research is providing new insights into Beothuk plant use and early Beothuk-European relations. This paper reports on plant remains recovered from Beothuk components at five sites across Newfoundland. In particular, charred grape seeds from Ferryland (CgAf-2) and Russell's Point (CiAj-1), Trinity Bay, suggest friendly contact between the Beothuk and Europeans on the Avalon Peninsula during the early 17th century.
