Edmonton 2022

Edmonton 2022

Welcome to the 54th Canadian Archaeological Association Conference! This year, the hybrid conference will be held in Edmonton, Alberta and online from April 27-30, 2022, and will be jointly hosted by the Archaeological Society of Alberta. Our theme this year is “Where Communities Meet/Un lieu de rencontre,” reflecting the changing practice of archaeology in Canada, the archaeological interest in how groups have interacted in the past, and the deep history of Edmonton. In Cree, Edmonton is known as amiskwacîwâskahikan and is situated on Treaty 6 territory, as well as in the Métis homeland and has been a place where Indigenous communities have gathered since time immemorial.

The in-person portion of the conference will be held at the Westin Edmonton, in downtown Edmonton, only a short distance away from the fully redesigned Royal Alberta Museum. More detailed information about the venue, virtual formats, planned events, and the conference COVID-19 policies will be shared soon.

The planning committee has representatives from the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, the Royal Alberta Museum, Athabasca University, the Archaeological Survey of Alberta, the Archaeological Society of Alberta, and the Association of Consulting Archaeologists of Alberta, making this a truly collaborative team.

We look forward to welcoming you to Edmonton. Stay tuned for more information, and contact conference@canadianarchaeology.com with any questions!
