Who we are
We invite you to join the New Brunswick Archaeology and Heritage Branch! We are responsible for the for the stewardship and conservation of New Brunswick’s 13,000+ years of heritage. We ensure effective enforcement and compliance with the Heritage Conservation Act by working with local, provincial, Federal, and First Nations governments, private industry, and the public.
What you will do
Reporting to the Director of the Archaeology and Heritage Branch, the Heritage Conservation Advisor will:
- Provide expert advice to the public, governments and agencies on matters pertaining to historic places, built heritage conservation and related programs.
- Responsible for heritage project and regulatory reviews, permitting, inspections, and heritage program delivery.
- Assist with research, policy development, correspondence
- Prepare briefing materials.
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as required
Work Environment
- Office location: Marysville Place, Fredericton
- Office layout: Open offices
- Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15 am - 4:30 pm
- Work flexibility outside of normal hours and travel throughout the province may be required
Who you are
You are passionate about the conservation of non-renewable heritage resources. You are an effective communicator, able to present detailed factual and conceptual information to technical and non-technical audiences. You are a critical thinker and are recognized for your sound judgement. You have strong organization skills, are known for your attention to detail and are able to prioritize deliverables. You can adjust and change direction when unique challenges impacting your work priorities arise. You are comfortable and effective working with external stakeholders, clients and all levels of the organization.
Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:
Need to have
- A university degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, or Social Sciences and (2) years of related work experience OR At least (6) years of work experience in built heritage, planning, or architecture.
- Knowledge of the theories, principles and practices for the conservation of historic places
- An understanding of the technical analysis of building materials, the causes of construction assembly deterioration, and processes for evaluating building changes over time.
- A valid driver's license and ability to travel
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
- Written and spoken competence in English and French is required
Nice to have
- Knowledge of New Brunswick and federal legislation/regulations pertaining to heritage conservation
- Knowledge and application of the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada.
- An understanding of construction project planning and management processes
Wage
$2,378.00 to $3,322.00 bi-weekly (Pay Band 5)
