Abstract
Traces of several short caribou fences were observed at Great Bear Lake in 1979. The apparent mode of construction seen in these vestiges is described. Of greater interest than construction details, however, are the fence layouts which not only capitalize on the presence of various terrain features but actually incorporate terrain elements into the animal entrapments or to extend their effective length. This frequently entails linking fence construction with small gorges. Speculations are offered on the possible functioning of these entrapments.
