PREDICTIVE MODELING ALONG THE SASKATCHEWAN RIVER

Jim Finnigan

Abstract

During the 1970s and 1980s a substantial amount of archaeological survey was completed along stretches of the Saskatchewan River between Nipawin and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. A wide range of survey techniques was employed, from surface reconnaissance to probabilistic sampling. Because this river is situated in a transitional zone between the aspen parkland and the boreal forest, a clearer picture of the distribution of sites here could be used as starting model for site location in the two adjacent ecotones. This paper presents a preliminary report on process of building a predictive site location model for the Saskatchewan River.
