Abstract

Archaeological research made at Fort Temiscamingue in northwest Quebec between 1992 and 1995 have revealed traces of occupation of both Aboriginal and eurocanadian origins. While the fur trade activity dates back to the1700's and 1800's, the pre-contact Aboriginal occupation has been traced back to about 6000 years. Archaeological, historical and material culture studies associated with the fur trade establishment give clues to both Indian and fur traders life at this post which has been a regional center in the area.
