A FISHING VILLAGE NEAR GASPé QUéBEC

Pierre Drouin

Abstract

During the 1970's, excavations were conducted on the Penouile Peninsula, Forillon National Park. Remains of a French establishment dating from the 1713-1758 period were then discovered. Jean-François Blanchette reported on this site through papers in a Gaspésie magazine. Further testing during the 1988 summer season provided additional data concerning the hypotheses originally presented by Blanchette regarding supplies and communication between Forillon, the French colonies at Louisbourg and on the Saint Lawrence river, and France. This paper will deal with the result of this research.
