Lifeways of Canada Limited, Alberta's original and longest operating historical resources consulting company, is seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Position: Project Archaeologist
Location: Calgary
Remuneration: Commensurate with candidate experience and education Full‐Time

Description: Lifeways is seeking a professional archaeologist minimally capable of holding Archaeological Research Permits issued in Alberta by the Historical Resources Management Branch in keeping with the

requirements of the Historical Resources Act (RSA 2000) and the Archaeological and Palaeontological Research Permit Regulation (Alberta Regulation 254/2002). The qualified candidate must provide evidence that pursuant to the regulation, he or she has prepared a written post‐graduate thesis in archaeology/anthropology or related field and has been awarded a post‐graduate degree in such at an accredited university, and has suitable field and lab experience. The candidate will be responsible for:

  • providing professional assessments and opinions of historical resources in Historic Resources Applications and Statements of Justification or similar documents;
  • designing and implementing appropriate archaeological HRIA programs in the field; and
  • producing well‐written HRIA and other reports communicating the results and recommendations.

Considerable out‐of‐town travel at all times of the year is required, as is working in inclement weather and in remote locations. Demonstrable ability to hold permits in other jurisdictions such as British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, NWT, Nunavut, and the Yukon a plus, as is knowledge of First Nations consultation and Indigenous Engagement. Candidates should be prepared to work well with others on the close‐knit Lifeways team.
