The Departments of Archaeology and Geography at Memorial University of Newfoundland invite applications for a joint tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2020.  Teaching and other academic responsibilities will be divided between Archaeology (60%) and Geography (40%).

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Archaeology, Geography or a cognate discipline, with particular research skills and interests in the generation, analysis and archival dissemination of digital and quantitative data (“digitalization”; e.g. data science methods, probabilistic (Bayesian) and predictive modelling, legacy data digitalization, Indigenous cartographies, quantitative methods, Geographical Information Systems).  Archaeology and Geography currently share active research interests relating to Indigenous Peoples, arctic and northern regions, environment (including paleoenvironment) and natural resources, and oceans and fisheries, particularly, but not exclusively, as these bear on regions adjoining the Northwest Atlantic.  The candidate will be expected to develop research and teaching programs within one or more of these areas that foster digitalization and interdisciplinarity.
