Archaeological Permit Holder or Crew Lead

Western Heritage is looking for an archaeological permit holder or experienced crew lead to join our team in St. Albert full-time!

We are looking for a candidate with previous experience (preferably in Alberta) in conducting permit-level fieldwork and reporting. The position is to start immediately, but we are willing to wait for the candidate that is a good fit.

Qualifications:

  • M.A. in archaeology or equivalent (M.Sc., M.E.S.) in a comparable field of study 
  • Ability to hold an archaeological permit in Alberta, have a clear plan to achieve permit-holding status in the future, or have previous experience leading crews in the boreal forest
  • Demonstrated success in working with others as part of a team; able to take direction from others as well as to lead and supervise team members
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills and a strong drive for lifelong learning
  • Hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License, be physically fit, and be able to travel and work out of town for up to 10 days at a time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office or Apple iWorks; some GIS experience (QGIS or ArcGIS) is an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct permit-level work (fieldwork, schedule projects, supervise staff, write reports, screen developments for heritage concerns), including leading crews in forestry
  • Maintain good communications with clients, staff, management, regulators, communities, and landowners
  • Complete projects successfully, on time and on budget, according to regulations
  • Ensure safety and quality procedures are maintained
  • Actively participate in business development initiatives
