Heritage BC has opened the Call for Proposals for our 2026 Annual Conference, which will take place in May 2026 in the Sea to Sky, BC.
Conference Theme - Living Connections: People, Place, and Stewardship
This year’s theme focuses on the dynamic relationship between people and the land in the Sea to Sky region. We are inviting proposals that explore community stewardship, ecological restoration, cultural teachings, industrial legacies, and collaborative approaches to caring for heritage places.
We especially encourage submissions that:
- Explore the living relationship between people and place, showing how heritage is both shaped by and shaping the landscapes of the Sea to Sky region.
- Highlight Indigenous knowledge, leadership, and teachings rooted in land, water, and cultural continuity.
- Reflect on persistence, activism, and advocacy in protecting sacred sites, restoring ecosystems, and safeguarding stories.
- Examine the legacies of industry and development, from mining and forestry to recreation and tourism, and how these histories inform present-day stewardship.
- Share practices for restoration and renewal, including approaches to repairing landscapes, reconnecting communities, and reimagining heritage in response to ecological change.
- Address responsibilities of care and continuity, exploring how heritage practitioners, governments, and communities can respond to inherited challenges with creativity and accountability.
