Heritage Business International has just released its quarterly sentiment survey of heritage office managers in Canada (and the U.S.). These are the first data on the COVID-19 impact on HRM/CRM/environmental compliance … and they are not good. Because of the importance of these data, we are making this report available for free. We regret to inform you that the CAA Board of Directors, in consultation with the 2020 conference organizing committee, have decided to cancel this year’s meeting in Edmonton. The health and safety of our members is our top priority and we want to help moderate the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on Canada’s healthcare system. Our decision to cancel is based on current projections on the spread of the COVID-19 virus and increased travel restrictions from provincial and federal agencies and universities. Yesterday, the Alberta Government asked organizers to cancel any events that have more than 250 attendees.
The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada remains low, but we are monitoring the situation both here and abroad. There are currently no plans to cancel the CAA annual meeting in Edmonton, but should any conference registrant have to cancel their travel plans because of a travel advisory issued by a public health authority or company/organization/institution travel restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 virus, we will refund their registration fees.
