Test excavations at Dust Cave, in Northwest Alabarna, have revealed 4 m of deposits that date to the Early (10,500-8,000 B.P.) and Middle (8,000-6,000 B.P.) Holocene. One of the unique features of these deposits is that, for these periods, they contain the largest faunal collections recovered from the Middle Tennessee Valley. The collection has been studied, not; only to provide an analysis of the faunal rernains, but also to shed additional light on the cultural changes that occurred between the Early and Middle Holocene.
