ARCHAEOLOGY MATTERS!

Canadian archaeology and the Canadian heritage sector are facing generational challenges to the regulation, protections, and funding for the work we all do. Both federal and provincial/territorial (e.g., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia) levels of government have passed legislation or budgets that seek to streamline development, deregulate environmental—and with that, potentially archaeological—protections, slashed budgets for heritage programming, and tabled plans to remove crucial publicly available heritage data from the internet.

2026 Student Travel Grant

  • The CAA/ACA is able to offer assistance to student conference participants to offset their travel and accommodation costs.
  • Grant applicants must be members in good standing and must participate directly in the scholarly program of the Annual Conference by presenting a paper or poster for which they are first (primary) author, or by being a Session Discussant or an Invited Presenter.

The McMaster University Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2026. They are looking for a candidate whose theoretical approaches, methods and area of research complement current faculty strengths, with preferred skill sets being archaeological science, with preference, but not limited to palaeoethnobotany, and/or zooarchaeology.  While the geographical area of specialization is open, preference may be given to those who work in the archaeology of North America, not least the Eastern North America/Great Lakes region.
