Résumé (en anglais):

VoCarta is a voice-to-data system that combines GPS mapping capabilities and the incorporation of other electronic data devices into an overall interactive GIS or database management system. This technology is currently being developed by Stantec Consulting Ltd. with Alberta Infrastructure in the Little Bow Reservoir Archaeological Project. Two archaeological sites, EbPi-4 and EbPi-104, were excavated in the fall of 1999 using a newly developed VoCarta Archaeology vocabulary. This field test was completed with promising results. A laboratory component for this software is also in development and is being tested with high expectations. VoCarta has provided an improved efficiency and costs savings advantage ranging between 20% to over 80% on previously completed projects. This new technology combined with GPS, laser range finders, digital cameras, bar code scanners, database, and GIS programs indicates a new dynamic period for the practice of archaeology in Canada.
